Ankeny alumni group offering scholarships
The Ankeny Alumni Association will present four scholarships to the class of 2009. There will be two $400 Ankeny High School scholarships and two $600 Legacy scholarships available. Any senior may apply for an AHS scholarship.
Seniors whose parents, grandparents or great-grandparents were graduates of Ankeny High School are eligible for an Legacy scholarship.
The applicants are asked to write about two pre-selected topics. Three Ankeny graduates, who are now Ankeny teachers, review and select the recipients of the scholarships.
Applications for the scholarships are available in the AHS guidance office, online at the AHS guidance department Web site, or on the AHS Web site. The recipients are awarded the scholarships at the senior awards night and must be present at the annual alumni banquet to receive the awards.
In addition, there is an Ankeny Alumni Lein Family scholarship awarded by Rod and Dee Lein, graduates of the class of 1953. It has a value of $2,000, with $500 to be presented for four years to a graduating student who has a GPA between 2.0 and 3.5, and is active in community, school and family activities. The recipient must be present at the annual alumni banquet to receive the award.
